Past Play

January 2011 – Winter (we didn’t actually do any of the activities, but we did read the books and sing the songs and play some of the games)

Play: We’ll talk about cold things and play outside in the cold. We will play the “hibernation game” (take turns hiding a bear – he’s “hibernating” – and finding him). We’ll use the “hot and cold” game to help us find the bear.

When Will It Be Spring? by Catherine Walters
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats (only because we didn’t read it last week, and how could I leave this one out!)
The Jacket I Wear in the Snow by Shirley  Neitzel
Froggy Gets Dressed by Johnathan London
Ready for Winter by Marthe Jocelyn
Recess at 20 Below Cindy Lou Aillaud
Time to Sleep by Denise Flemming
Hibernation Station by Michelle Meadows

Music: Bear is Sleeping, Dainty Little Snowflakes , Christmas songs: Jesus Num Presepio (Away in a Manger)

Bear is Sleeping:
Bear is sleeping, bear is sleeping
in a cave,  in a cave
I wonder when he’ll come out
I wonder when he’ll come out
In the spring, in the spring.

Math: We’ll classify things as “hot” or “cold” and practice counting the snowflakes on our living room window (they are paper ones – don’t worry). We will also work on patterns.
